Domestic Violence: Living in Fear | NPT Reports

A lot of times people ask you what you did wrong. They ask you what you could have done to make him act that way... His behavior was given to me slowly.
He had issues from his past he hadn't dealt with. I'm thinking I could love him out of it. Love wasn't enough.

In “NPT Reports Domestic Violence: Living in Fear,” we learn about the survivors, the perpetrators, and the witnesses to these criminal acts of violence.

Relationship abuse is a pattern of abusive and coercive behaviors used to maintain power and control over a former or current intimate partner. Abuse can be emotional, financial, sexual or physical and can include threats, isolation, and intimidation.

All people in relationships should remind themselves that they have rights in any relationships.

I have the right…

…not to be abused – physically, emotionally, or sexually

…to be treated with respect

…to say no and be heard

…to express my own opinions

…to private time and my own space

…to have friends of my own

…to hear about my strengths and assets

…to ask others for help if I need it

…to live a violence-free life

…to change my mind, to fall out of love, and live with no threats

…to accept a gift without having to give anything in return

…to pursue my own special interests – and not be criticized for pursuing them

…to have my needs considered as much as my partner’s.
